Looking to take things globally? Then the EMDG scheme could be for you.  The scheme looks to encourage startups and SME businesses to develop export markets by granting up to 50 per cent of eligible promotion expenses. 

Who is this for?

SMEs and startups who are looking to:

  • promote the export of  its goods and/or delivery of services outside Australia; 

  • promote inbound tourism; or 

  • promoted the export of intellectual property and know-how outside Australia.

What do you get?

You could be eligible for up to 50% of reimbursement of eligible expenses (less the first $5,000) and up to $150,000 per application.

Things you can claim:

  • overseas representation expenses;

  • marketing consultant expenses ;

  • trade fairs, seminars, in-store promotions expenses; and

  • promotional literature and advertising expenses.

Timing:

Unassisted applications need to be completed between 1 July 2020 and 30 November 2020 for FY20. Special EMDG Consultants can lodge claims for you as late as 2 March 2021.

✏️ Luna Note: BEWARE! You cannot claim expenses that relate to trade with New Zealand or North Korea, are of capital nature or relate to sales or product development or that are fraudulent. Also Funding for the EMDG scheme has been increased by $49.8m for FY20 .

☝🏻 Our tip:: If your business already accesses the EMDG scheme this is good news because it nearly doubles the amount of grants available. If you haven’t accessed the scheme, but think you may meet the eligibility criteria you should definitely apply this. You can apply yourself but we recommend getting the help of an expert to ensure you get the most out of your claim.
